Royal Navy Mobilizes Forces to Secure the Strait of Hormuz and Clear Naval Mines
The British Royal Navy is preparing to launch a security mission aimed at securing the Strait of Hormuz and clearing naval mines, amid ongoing tensions that have led to the effective closure of the strait, disrupting global shipping and driving up energy prices. Hundreds of British naval personnel are stationed aboard the RFA Lyme Bay off the coast of Gibraltar, awaiting final directives to execute the expected mission in coordination with France and several international allies. The vessel has been equipped with advanced gear, including munitions and specialized maritime drones for mine detection. The ship is expected to head towards the Arabian Gulf soon via the Suez Canal to join the British destroyer HMS Dragon and allied ships in securing the vital maritime corridor. Meanwhile, British Minister for the Armed Forces, Al Carns, confirmed that his country is working to rally an international coalition to address the crisis, noting that thousands of ships have been prevented from crossing the strait since the tensions escalated.
