Seven Suspects Arrested and Kidnap Victims Freed in Eastern Baghdad
The command of Baghdad's Rusafa Police Operations announced today, Saturday (May 9, 2026), the arrest of a number of suspects involved in a kidnapping operation and the liberation of the kidnapped individuals in the Al-Obeidi area, east of the capital.
The command stated in a statement that upon receiving information about a kidnapping incident in the Al-Obeidi area, Al-Zawraa emergency patrols moved in coordination with Al-Obeidi Police Station, supported by the tactical regiment and the ground-holding force to the incident site. The security forces were able to track the route of the vehicles used in the crime, where the first vehicle, a BYD, was seized and three suspects inside were arrested.
It indicated that descriptions of the second vehicle were circulated, and it was subsequently seized by Al-Aadhameya emergency patrols with four suspects inside, confirming that the kidnapped individuals were freed, the suspects were placed in detention, and the necessary legal procedures were taken against them.
