United States Launches Large-Scale Military Operation to Secure Maritime Passages in Strait of Hormuz

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced today, Monday (May 4, 2026), the launch of a large-scale military operation under the name "Freedom Project," aiming to secure maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and establish an enhanced security zone.

The command clarified that the operation comes at the direct direction of President Donald Trump, to support commercial vessels in crossing this strategic corridor that forms a vital artery for a quarter of global oil movement, in addition to massive quantities of fuel and fertilizers.

Admiral Brad Cooper, Commander of Central Command, affirmed that this mission is a fundamental pillar of regional security and global economic stability, while maintaining the naval blockade as an ongoing measure.

The command indicated that the operation includes deploying guided missile destroyers, more than 100 land and naval fighter aircraft, advanced unmanned platforms, and a human force estimated at 15,000 personnel.
