Recent economic reports revealed on Saturday a significant increase in the financial burdens borne by American households, with the additional cost of fuel estimated at approximately $59 billion since the outbreak of the recent conflict with Iran. According to financial experts, this surge—equivalent to roughly $450 per household—has completely wiped out the average annual tax refunds due to sharp increases in the prices of gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel. Despite improvements in the labor market and wages, major banking institutions have warned that energy-related inflation will hinder the growth of consumer spending. For its part, the US administration asserted that de-escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz would lead to a rapid decline in inflation rates and fuel prices, while other political leaders continued to downplay these concerns even as gasoline prices registered a jump of nearly 40% compared to last year.
