Diyala Launches Flexible Eid Al-Adha Security Plan with Directives Preventing the Militarization of Streets
The Diyala Provincial Council announced on Tuesday (May 26, 2026) the launch of a comprehensive security plan dedicated to securing the days of Eid Al-Adha, confirming its reliance on six strategic priorities aimed at providing protection without resorting to closures or excessive armed presence. The head of the council, Omar Al-Karawi, explained in a press statement that the security apparatus has begun implementing the plan based on precise assessments to ensure the highest degrees of fluidity and stability. The plan primarily focuses on securing places of worship and mosques during Eid prayers, in addition to protecting cemeteries, parks, tourist areas, commercial complexes, and popular markets that witness heavy turnout. Al-Karawi emphasized the strict directives against blocking roads and avoiding the "militarization of the street," noting that the noticeable security stability in Diyala allows for the adoption of flexible mechanisms in security deployment. He confirmed that these measures will send a message of reassurance encouraging families to celebrate the Eid atmosphere, proving the province's ability to efficiently manage major events without disrupting public life.
