Iraq Performs Its First Two Simultaneous Liver Transplants Successfully

Imam Zain Al-Abidin Teaching Hospital announced the successful completion of Iraq’s first two liver transplants performed simultaneously, describing the achievement as a significant milestone in advanced healthcare services. 

Hospital management said both surgeries were completed with full success following more than a year and a half of preparation, including the establishment of a fully integrated specialized liver transplant center equipped with modern medical devices, and the readiness of operating rooms, recovery areas, intensive care, and inpatient wards to high medical standards. 

Liver transplantation is among the most complex surgical procedures worldwide, the hospital noted, adding that the milestone paves the way for expanding such operations domestically and reducing the need for patients to travel abroad for treatment.
