Government Directives to Establish the Supreme Sovereign Council for Integrity and Public Fund Recovery
Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi issued official directives on Saturday to establish the "Supreme Sovereign Council for Integrity, Oversight, and the Recovery of Public Funds." The decision was made during a comprehensive meeting dedicated to discussing mechanisms for auditing government contracts, attended by senior officials from oversight and judicial bodies. The Prime Minister will chair the new council, which aims to monitor sensitive oversight files with significant financial and economic impacts across state institutions, in order to curb financial waste and recover embezzled funds, with all findings referred to the judiciary. The directives also included the formation of a central committee to audit government contracts prior to their execution, emphasizing the need for economic feasibility studies to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
