Green Zone Shut Down and High Security Alert Ahead of Confidence Vote for Al-Zaydi Government
Baghdad witnessed a complete lockdown of the Green Zone and an unprecedented state of high security alert, coinciding with a parliamentary session dedicated to granting confidence to the new government headed by Ali Al-Zaydi. Security forces, since early morning hours, implemented a special security plan involving strict inspection measures and a vehicle ban on roads leading to the area, in anticipation of any security breaches. The Council of Representatives had earlier announced the session to discuss and vote on the ministerial curriculum and the new cabinet, under tightened security to secure the vicinity of parliament.
