Iraq Achieves Wheat Self-Sufficiency and Secures Its Strategic Reserve
In a major national achievement, Iraq officially announced its success in achieving full self-sufficiency in the wheat crop for the current season, thanks to the joint efforts of the Ministries of Agriculture and Trade and Iraqi farmers. Modern agricultural plans and the use of advanced irrigation techniques have enabled a significant increase in production despite water and climate challenges. The government confirmed that it has paid all farmers' financial entitlements immediately, contributing to the stability of the agricultural sector and supporting local products. This achievement will allow Iraq to direct funds previously allocated for imports towards other development projects, while securing bread for citizens from pure national production. The state is currently working on strengthening storage silos and building new warehouses to maintain this important strategic reserve and ensure the sustainability of national food security.
