Negotiation Details Emerge: U.S. Proposals on Enriched Uranium and Iran’s Conditional Stance
An Iranian source disclosed details of proposals presented by the United States during ongoing talks, stating that Washington requested access to Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium—an idea met with Iranian reservations.
The source said the U.S. proposed transferring enriched uranium outside Iran, while Tehran signaled conditional willingness to reduce enrichment levels domestically instead, by converting highly enriched material to lower levels—down to 3.7% or 20%—under International Atomic Energy Agency oversight.
According to the source, Washington also sought a long-term halt to advanced enrichment activities, while Tehran insists on its right to nuclear technology for peaceful purposes and rejects proposals that would remove nuclear materials from the country.
The talks also touched on financial compensation, the source added, noting that the U.S. rejected an Iranian proposal regarding payments for economic losses caused by past sanctions—highlighting persistent gaps on sensitive technical and financial issues.
