Iraqi Courts Issue Deterrent Sentences Against Elements Promoting Banned Baath Party Ideas

Al-Karkh Criminal Court issued today, Monday (May 4, 2026), prison sentences of six years against four individuals proven to be involved in promoting the ideas of the banned Baath Party.

A statement from judicial authorities explained that the convicts were found in possession of digital materials containing publications promoting the banned party's ideas on their mobile phones, in Kirkuk Governorate during 2025 and 2026.

The statement added that the court based its ruling on Article (8/First) of Law No. (32) of 2016 prohibiting the Baath Party and racist, terrorist, and takfiri entities, parties, and activities, and in accordance with Articles of complicity (47, 48, and 49) of the Iraqi Penal Code.
